Rebecca Heyliger hit a major milestone recently in her quest to represent Bermuda in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in the 50 meter freestyle swimming event by hitting the Olympic B standard time at the Validus Bermuda National Championships held at the National Aquatics Centre. She posted a time of 26.13 seconds, a personal best smashing her Bermuda national record of 26.58 seconds.

As previously announced, Awbury Insurance Ltd. is the proud sponsor of Rebecca’s Olympic quest. Rebecca expressed her excitement to Awbury about her performance and reiterated a quote that she first used back in 2011 when she was part of a Bermuda Sport Anti-Doping authority campaign that spotlighted young drug-free athletes. The quote was "The choices you make today determine your tomorrow. What's yours?" She went on to tell us that she “stands by this quote more than ever, because it perfectly describes the sacrifices necessary to achieve success in sport. Bermuda can be a very fun, party filled place. Over the years there have been many temptations to just relax and have fun and be a normal happy Bermudian making the most out of my time on the island. But I have had to resist, and instead make the most out of the opportunities I have to train hard and get better. I think had I not made those sacrifices I would not have been able to achieve what I did in the pool this past weekend.” Being out in LA, training with others who share the same end goal of going to Rio has been an important part of my preparation, which would not have been possible without Awburys support. So thank you again!”

No Rebecca; thank-you for embodying the excellence that Awbury has come to stand for and representing us, yourself and Bermuda so admirably!
